because, well, it was on the weekend that I have to do an 18-miler for the Pittsburgh Marathon May 3rd. It makes sense to me, I think I would be more motivated if I had someone else to run with, plus I think that it will be a good indicator of whether I will be able to finish the Pittsburgh Marathon.
Thoughts from the seasoned runners out there? I don't plan on "racing". I'm not going to worry about the pace. I just want to go out there and do it.

Good luck on the 30K! I just did the math- perfect mileage for your 18 mile training run.
I definitely incorporate races into my training when I can. Just remember not to push too hard in the 30K if you want the marathon to be your goal race.
