It all started on Friday night. Of course there was no alcohol due to the half marathon the next day. It sucked ass! Brayden had a friend over and when his grandma came to pick him up, she brought me a huge gob as big as my head. Of course I ate it! Man, what a mistake. I couldn't sleep well from the sugar rush and I swear I had a sugar hangover the next morning! LOL
I headed out to IKEA around 6:00 because the race was at 8:00. I figured I'd have enough time that early in the morning. I ended up hitting traffic and didn't get to the race until 7:15, which made me really nervous. I waited in line to register and went back to the car to put my goodie bag away. At this point it was getting late and I had to pee. The.pee.line.was.huge. I didn't get done until 7:55 and was freaking out! But I made it even though I was in the back of the line.
I wore my heart rate monitor, which I think was a mistake. I tried to keep my heart rate around 165 and I think it slowed me down too much. I was obsessively checking it! I felt really good and had a GU around mile 7. I kept chugging along and wasn't feeling fatigued until about mile 10. 10 miles was my longest training run, so that was understandable.
I had no clue where I was time wise. There wasn't a clock at the halfway point. I knew that there were many ahead of me and many behind me. When I got to the end I was pretty disappointed to see that I was at 2:14:01. I know I didn't train nearly as hard as I should have and I got off track for vacation, but the competitive bitch in me wanted to somehow do better! But the rational part of me knew that I should be happy with that, considering I had only trained for 6-7 weeks.
I did get a nice shirt and a medal! My first medal. I always do these rinky-dink small town races that never give out medals so I was happy with that.
The ride home was a NIGHTMARE. I left IKEA at 10:30 and was heading to University of Pittsburgh to pick up my son from college for the weekend. What should have been a 20 minute ride took me 3 fucking hours! The exit to Oakland was closed and the Parkway was under construction and down to 1 lane. I was starving, dehydrated and sore! It was so bad...I didn't have any water or anything to eat in the car. Then all the sudden I hear the dreaded ding that my gas is low. I was on 0 miles to empty for an hour! I have no idea how I didn't run out of gas. Somehow I finally got off another exit and got gas. I didn't end up getting home until after 3:00 and still hadn't eaten yet.
I scarfed some food down, had some water, then had a few beers and crashed at 8:30 p.m.! I felt pretty good on Sunday, actually better than I had ever felt after a half marathon. Today I took a 3 mile walk at lunch and felt fine.
Tomorrow I start Round 2 of P90X. Boy just not doing it for 3 weeks has made me flabby! Must.get.back.on.the.wagon
